Welcome to My Website

My name is Pamela Moolman and I have over 17 of experience as a counsellor in Bristol and Chepstow plus 5 years of family and mediation work. I am also a registered shiatsu practitioner with 16 years experience.

The counselling I provide is confidential and professional and carried out in a tranquil and comfortable setting.

I work with individuals and couples as well as children, short term and long term.

In agreement with their HR departments, I offer short term counselling for the staff of the City of Bristol and Filton colleges. As with all my clients, this is completely confidential.

As each person or couple will bring their own issues and resources, I will draw on my exprience and various trainings to best respond to thier needs.

In short term work, both private and with the colleges, I often work with issues of stress and burn out. Apart from offering support to enable people to work through issues, it can be useful to introduce techniques and strategies for coping and for changing situations.

People often come when they are in crises such as bereavements, relationship issues or long term psychological problems. They may also just be wanting to enrich their lives and consider their life choices.

There are any number of times in our lives when it is useful to stop and reflect in a confidential and supportive environement. Occasionaly a fresh insight offered may also help to open out new possibilities.

I try to provide appointment times to suits different lifestyles.

In Bristol I work Thursdays and Fridays, including evenings plus some Saturdays. In Chepstow, I work Wednesdays. The appointments are an hour long. an hour and a half,

The initial session is about getting to know each other and, on my part, exploring how I can best help you. Each person is unique and has his or her own way of dealing with life's issues and this is what interests me. During this first session we can also discuss how long you may wish to continue.

I realise that finding a therapist you can feel comfortable with can be daunting and I offer free introductory chats if people would prefer to meet before starting.

With regard to shiatsu, I work mainly in the Chepstow clinic and the same approach and hours of work apply. I have been a practitioner in Chepstow for 16 years. See shiatsu page.

What I offer

With my counselling in Bristol and Chepstow I work with a range of problems including, among other issues:

long term and short term work,

bereavement;

stress and trauma;

exploring life choices and self exploration.

Couple work and family work. This can be with couples who want to reslove issues , explore whether they want to stay together or separate as well as possible. Couple work may also be seen as a way of growing and exploring personal issues.

I work with straight and gay couples and also with family members or friends who may want to resolve issues.

All age groups, including teenagers.

About myself

I have both a B Soc Sc (South Africa) a Masters degree in psychology (Middlesex) and have completed a years training and two separate workshops in Hakomi psychotherapy. I have worked with family mediation for five years (Dorest probation) and was a child care and emergency social worker for 8 years. I have also tutored for Open University and UWE.

In my years of training and exprience, I have developed skills including supportive and reflective listening and techniques in working with stress and trauma.

I am interested in how emotions, eg fear, control us through association, thought or physical sensation. Working with visual images,memory and awareness can be a direct way to release us from old patterns. This is done not by pushing but by listening to ourselves and giving ourselves permission to really be what we are.

Different ways of working suit different people and I will always look to find the optimal way for each person.

Shiatsu

I qualified as a shiatsu practioner in 1986 and have been pracitsing ever since.

Shiatsu is an ancient manipulation technique that works on the same meridian or energy lines used in acupuncture. This type of therapy corrects both emotional and physical imbalances and can be used for relaxation as well as physical conditions such as muscular or digestion problems among others. It focuses on underlying imbalances... read more

Group Therapy

I will be setting up groups in Bristol and the Forseat of Dean using meditation and techniques from my therapy. Please contact for more details. read more

Why Counselling?

People come into counselling for many different reason. Sometimes unexpected events bring changes into our lives. This could be, for example, the end of a significant relationship, the loss of someone close or a career upheaval, leaving us feeling disempowered, lost, or fearful of the future.

There are also times when, without quite knowing why, we are not fulfilled or satisfied in our lives and the way through is unclear.

If we give ourselves time to explore our probems and listen to the underlying patterns and emotions, we can often transform difficult situations and disover aspects and strenghts in ourselves that may surprise us.

Knowing ourselves invariably strenghtens us and problems usually hide the possibility for change. It can be difficult to see what is happening when we are overwhelmed by a situation.

At these times a skilled counsellor can both support and facilitate a process, allowing us to uncover our own wisdom and explore options.
